Our private 4 day Casablanca to Marrakech desert tour links your arrival airport with the Sahara and ends in Marrakech, ready for your flight home. Landing in Casablanca but flying home from Marrakech? This private 4 day desert tour from Casablanca turns that one-way journey into a trip through the Middle Atlas, the Sahara and the southern valleys. We collect you at Casablanca airport or your hotel, you sleep one night in Fes, one night in a private tent at our camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes and one night in the Dades Valley, then we drop you in Marrakech on the evening of Day 4.

The trip ends in a city with its own World Heritage listing, the Medina of Marrakesh, so it is worth keeping a day or two there before you fly home.
It is the quickest sensible way to cross from Casablanca to the Sahara and on to Marrakech. It is also a full-on trip: two of the four days involve 7+ hours in the vehicle. Read the day-by-day plan below before you book, so you know exactly what to expect.

Why this route works if you fly into Casablanca
Most desert tours start in Marrakech or Fes. If your flight lands in Casablanca, you would normally lose a day getting to one of those cities first. This tour uses that first day well: we drive straight from Casablanca towards Fes, so you are already on the road to the Sahara by lunchtime.
From there the route never doubles back. You go north-east to south-east, then west across the Atlas to Marrakech. Every road is different, and you finish exactly where many international flights depart.
What you trade for speed:
- Fes is an overnight stop, not a visit. You arrive in the evening and leave after breakfast. If you want a guided day in the Fes medina, look at our 7-day Morocco itinerary from Casablanca.
- Two long driving days. Day 2 (Fes to Merzouga) and Day 4 (Dades to Marrakech) each have roughly 7–8 hours of driving before stops.
- One night in the desert. You ride in at sunset and ride out at sunrise.
If those trade-offs suit you, this is an efficient and well-paced way to see the south.

Highlights of the trip
- A direct start from Casablanca airport — no extra transfer day
- The Middle Atlas: Ifrane’s alpine-style streets and the cedar forest near Azrou
- The Ziz Valley palm groves on the drive into the Sahara
- A camel ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes and a night in a private tent with its own shower and toilet
- Sunrise over the dunes
- A walk through the narrowest part of Todra Gorge
- Aït Ben Haddou, the UNESCO-listed earthen ksar
- The Tizi n’Tichka pass (approx. 2,260 m) over the High Atlas into Marrakech
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Casablanca → (Rabat, optional photo stop) → Fes
Approx. driving: around 3.5 hours direct; add about 1 hour if you include Rabat.
Your driver meets you at Casablanca Mohammed V Airport arrivals or at your Casablanca hotel. [CONFIRM meeting point inside the airport and latest pick-up time for a same-day arrival in Fes]
If your flight arrives early enough, we can make a short stop in Rabat, Morocco’s capital, about an hour up the coast. This is a photo stop — usually the Hassan Tower and the Mohammed V Mausoleum area, or the Kasbah of the Udayas [CONFIRM stop location]. It is optional and depends on your landing time.
We then continue inland to Fes. Expect to arrive in the late afternoon or evening. Check in to your riad and rest — tomorrow is a long day.
- Lunch: not included; your driver can suggest a roadside café.
- Overnight: Riad in Fes — [CONFIRM Fes riad name(s)] or similar
- Meals: Dinner [CONFIRM dinner included on Day 1 in Fes]
Day 2: Fes → Ifrane → Midelt → Ziz Valley → Merzouga (camel ride and desert camp)
Approx. driving: around 460 km, 7.5–8.5 hours before stops.
This is the longest day of the trip, and also one of the most varied. We leave Fes after breakfast — usually around [CONFIRM departure time] — and climb into the Middle Atlas.
- Ifrane — short photo stop in the town often called “the Switzerland of Morocco” for its sloped roofs and gardens.
- Cedar forest near Azrou — short stop to see the cedars and, often, Barbary macaques by the road. The monkeys are an endangered species, so please do not feed them.
- Midelt — lunch stop (not included). The town sits between the Middle and High Atlas and is known for its apples.
- Ziz Valley — photo stop above the long ribbon of palm groves south of Errachidia.
You reach Merzouga in the late afternoon. Leave your main luggage in the vehicle, take a small overnight bag, and meet your camel guide. The camel ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes lasts about [CONFIRM camel ride duration]. If you have back or knee problems, we can take you to camp by 4×4 instead — just tell us when you book.
At the camp you have your own private tent with a shower and toilet. Dinner is served, then there is a campfire with Berber drum music under the stars.
- Overnight: Mouhou Luxury Camp, Erg Chebbi (private tent)
- Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Day 3: Merzouga → Rissani → Tinghir → Todra Gorge → Dades Valley
Approx. driving: around 280 km, about 5 hours before stops.
Wake early to watch the sunrise from the dunes, then ride back to Merzouga by camel (or 4×4) for breakfast and a shower [CONFIRM where breakfast and showers are taken on Day 3].
We drive west through Rissani, the historic market town of the Tafilalt region. This is usually a pass-through; if your day falls on a souk day we can stop briefly [CONFIRM — souk days traditionally Sun/Tue/Thu, verify]. The road then follows a line of desert villages and palm oases to Tinghir.
- Todra Gorge — visit. Walk along the river between rock walls roughly 300 m high. Allow about [CONFIRM time at Todra] here.
- Lunch: near the gorge (not included).
In the afternoon we continue to the Dades Valley, with its red rock and old kasbahs. Arrive at your accommodation in time to rest.

- Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Day 4: Dades → Skoura → Ouarzazate → Aït Ben Haddou → Tizi n’Tichka → Marrakech
Approx. driving: around 320–350 km, 6–7 hours before stops (plus the short detour to Aït Ben Haddou).
Today you cross from the desert side of Morocco back to Marrakech.
- Valley of Roses / Kalaat M’Gouna — pass-through. In May the area holds its rose festival.
- Skoura palm oasis — photo stop, with a view of Kasbah Amridil [CONFIRM whether an inside visit is offered].
- Ouarzazate — pass-through or short photo stop (Atlas Studios / Taourirt Kasbah from outside).
- Aït Ben Haddou — visit. Walk up through the UNESCO World Heritage ksar (inscribed 1987), well known as a film location. [CONFIRM whether a local guide is included or optional, and any fee]
- Lunch: near Aït Ben Haddou (not included).
- Tizi n’Tichka — photo stop at the pass, about 2,260 m high.
We descend through the High Atlas and reach Marrakech in the early evening. Your driver drops you at your Marrakech accommodation or at Marrakech airport. If you fly the same evening, please share your flight time when you book so we can plan the timing [CONFIRM latest safe flight departure time].
- Meals: Breakfast

Is the 4 day Casablanca to Marrakech desert tour right for you?
A good fit if you: – Arrive in Casablanca and depart from Marrakech – Want the Sahara and the southern valleys in the shortest sensible time – Are happy to spend long stretches in a comfortable vehicle with regular breaks
Probably not for you if you: – Want to explore Fes properly — choose a longer itinerary – Travel with very young children who struggle in a car for 7+ hours – Want more than one night in the dunes
If you are arriving in Fes rather than Casablanca, our 3-day Fes to Marrakech desert tour covers the same desert and southern route without the Casablanca leg.
Practical tips for this route
- Flight timing: an arrival before about [CONFIRM recommended latest landing time] keeps Day 1 relaxed. If you land late, consider a night in Casablanca first and start the next morning.
- Luggage: large suitcases stay locked in the vehicle overnight at Merzouga. Pack a small bag for the camp: toothbrush, warm layer, torch, phone charger [CONFIRM charging at camp].
- Season: in summer, Merzouga is often above 40 °C by day. From December to February, desert nights can be close to freezing and the Tichka pass can get snow; the route may change in snow or heavy rain. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable.
- Cash: bring Moroccan dirhams for lunches, drinks and tips. Card payment is not always possible in the south.
- Food needs: vegetarian and vegan meals are available on request.
- Motion: the Tichka road has many bends. If you get car-sick, take precautions before Day 4.
Frequently asked questions
Can you collect us directly from Casablanca airport when we land?
Yes. Your driver meets you in the arrivals area at Mohammed V Airport (CMN) [CONFIRM exact meeting point]. Send us your flight number so we can track delays. If you land late in the day, we may suggest spending the first night in Casablanca so the drive to Fes is not rushed [CONFIRM late-arrival arrangement and cost].
Is four days really enough to go from Casablanca to the Sahara and Marrakech?
It is enough to do the route properly, but not slowly. You will see the Middle Atlas, the dunes, Todra Gorge and Aït Ben Haddou. The cost is two long driving days and only an evening in Fes. If that feels too fast, the 7-day itinerary adds Chefchaouen and a full day in Fes.
Will we have any time to see Fes?
Only a little. You arrive on Day 1 in the late afternoon or evening and leave after breakfast on Day 2. You can take a short walk near your riad, but there is no guided medina visit. We can add an extra night in Fes with a local licensed guide on request [CONFIRM price].
Can we visit the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca before we leave?
Possibly, if your arrival time allows and guided visits are running that day. Visits for non-Muslim visitors run at set times only [CONFIRM visit times and days]. Adding the mosque usually means a later arrival in Fes. Ask us when you send your flight details.
Can the tour end at Marrakech airport instead of a hotel?
Yes, we can drop you at Marrakech Menara Airport [CONFIRM]. Because Day 4 is long and mountain roads can be slow, we only recommend evening flights after [CONFIRM time]. For earlier flights, plan a night in Marrakech.
What happens to our big suitcases at the desert camp?
They stay in the locked vehicle in Merzouga. You only carry a small overnight bag on the camel. Your driver stays nearby and you meet him again the next morning.
Can we do the trip the other way, from Marrakech to Casablanca?
Yes. The reverse route works the same way, with the long days in the same places. Ask for a quote with your arrival and departure dates.

What to send us before you fly
A few details help us plan your arrival day properly. When you ask for a quote, please include:
- Your flight number and landing time at Casablanca
- Your departure flight time from Marrakech, if you fly out on Day 4
- The number of suitcases, so we choose a vehicle with enough space
- Any food needs or health issues
With these, we can plan the 4 day Casablanca to Marrakech desert tour around your real timings, not a standard schedule.
Arriving after a long flight
Day 1 is the shortest drive of the 4 day Casablanca to Marrakech desert tour, which helps after a night flight. Sleep in the vehicle if you need to; the motorway to Fes is smooth. Drink plenty of water and eat a light dinner in Fes, because the next morning starts early. Keep a light jacket with you, as the air conditioning can feel cool after a long flight.
If your flight is delayed
Your driver follows your flight number [CONFIRM], so a short delay is not a problem. If you land very late, we discuss options with you, such as a first night in Casablanca. Message us on WhatsApp as soon as you know about a delay.
Adding days after the tour
Many travellers finish the 4 day Casablanca to Marrakech desert tour with two or three nights in Marrakech. It gives you time to rest and see the medina before your flight. Book that accommodation early, as central riads fill up quickly in spring and autumn.
