Most of our desert tours from Marrakech use the same main corridor through the south. Along the way you may visit or pass:
- Tizi n’Tichka — the main High Atlas pass, approx. 2,260 m.
- Aït Ben Haddou — UNESCO-listed earthen ksar (1987), seen in many films.
- Ouarzazate and Skoura — kasbahs, film studios and a palm oasis.
- Dades and Todra gorges — red rock valleys; Todra’s walls rise roughly 300 m.

Is Merzouga the only desert you go to from Marrakech?

Is it better to go back to Marrakech or continue to Fes?

Most Marrakech desert tours follow a similar rhythm on day one, whichever length you choose. The times below are typical, not fixed, and your driver adjusts them to traffic, weather and your pace.
- About 07:30–08:00 [CONFIRM]: pick-up at your riad or hotel, or at the nearest gate a car can reach.
- Mid-morning: coffee stop in the High Atlas, then photo stops near the Tichka pass.
- Around midday: walk through Aït Ben Haddou, then lunch nearby at your own cost.
- Afternoon: Ouarzazate and Skoura, with short stops when the light is good.
- Early evening: arrival at your first overnight stop, usually in the Dades Valley. On the 2-day tour there is no night on the way, so you continue to Merzouga.
Packing for two climates
The south of Morocco can be hot at midday and cold at night within the same 24 hours. This short list works for all of our Marrakech desert tours:
- Small overnight bag for the camp night: toothbrush, medication, phone charger and a warm layer. Your main luggage does not go on the camel.
- Layers: a fleece or light down jacket from October to April; a long-sleeved cotton shirt in summer against the sun.
- Scarf or buff for sand and wind during the camel ride.
- Closed shoes for Aït Ben Haddou and the gorges; sandals are fine on the dunes.

Comfort on the road
Long drives are the part of Marrakech desert tours that people worry about most, and a few habits help. Sit in the front if you get car sick, eat a light breakfast before the Tichka pass, and on a private tour ask your driver for a break whenever you need one.

Respecting the places you visit
The villages and oases you see on Marrakech desert tours are home to many families, not open-air museums. A few simple courtesies go a long way:
